A HOME FOR

BURN SURVIVORS

Based in South Africa, and its Head Office in the UK, Children of Fire (also known as Dorah Mokoena Charitable Trust) is an organisation that offers surgical reconstruction and rehabilitation to children affected by fire.

Children of Fire was established by a British engineering geologist and author, Bronwen Jones. Inspired by Dorah Mokoena, a little girl who had been burned and disfigured in a shack fire at the age of seven months, Bronwen wanted to help prevent the medical condition that threatened the girl’s eyesight. And so the charity was founded, together with her son, Tristian and friend Thobeka.

The three worked to fight poverty and sickness and particularly, disabilities and disfigurement resulting from burns injuries. The charity funds burnt children and seeks appropriate medical skills and experts to help them. They aim to reduce the cause of shack fires by educating, raising awareness and improving living conditions in these shack communities. The charity relies heavily on donations and voluntary help.
